Monteiro v. City of Cambridge: Some answers in Monday’s meeting

Yesterday, June 11, 2012, I printed advance information on a Cambridge City Council Finance Committee meeting concerning the case of Malvina Monteiro et al. v. City of Cambridge, at http://charlesriverwhitegeeseblog.blogspot.com/2012/06/cambridge-ma-usa-city-council-to.html.

Cambridge Day has given a report on the meeting, at http://www.cambridgeday.com/2012/06/11/councillor-gets-more-details-in-civil-rights-lawsuits-request-to-make-apology-waits/.

The short of the report is that the Kelley motion will be passed on to the full city council when the report of the finance committee is heard.

Some answers were provided to Kelley’s questions.

The Cambridge City Manager reported that $2,144,000 was paid in outside legal fees from the 1998 complaint to the 2008 trial which resulted in the very strong jury verdict against Cambridge and the Cambridge City Manager.

The outside legal costs for the appeal of the Superior Court verdict to the Appeals Court ran $488,409.

Further answers were promised by the Cambridge City Manager.

The Cambridge Day report is quite professional, quite detailed. I recommend it.
