Charles River: Pleas to the Environmentally Destructive Cambridge, MA, USA, City Council.

Charles River: Pleas to the Environmentally Destructive Cambridge City Council.

1. Some communications received on Monday night to the Cambridge City Council.
2. General.
3. Distressing Reality.

1. Some communications received on Monday night to the Cambridge City Council.

I am at a loss as to how to handle, within the scope of this blog, the responses which the Cambridge City Council received at its September 17, 2018 meeting concerning the outrages supported by NINE members of the nine member Cambridge City Council, the destruction of 56 mostly excellent trees and related matters at Magazine Beach on the Charles River.

Here are several of the communications

With regard to the first, I am attaching a photo of the magnificent willow which NINE city councilors want to destroy.  I have done clean up editing in these quotations, but otherwise have not changed them.  And I added paragraphing to the first.

Please, please, please do not let destroy the riverside.  This is arguable the most beautiful spot in Cambridge.

I have made so many memories there.  Under that willow tree is my go-to spot.

I’m begging you to please not take down any of the trees.

Use your heart.  This is very important to people.

You are destroying the face of Cambridge if the deconstruction continues.  Please leave things the way they area.

Love,

[NAME]

P.S.  Don’t lose your soul.

Why the Hell would you allow such destruction of trees?  As a longtime resident of Cambridge I am thoroughly disgusted and sad about this abomination.

I support the goals of the Friends of the Charles River White Geese and request that the Honorable Cambridge City Council take the following actions:

1. Retract and rescind the City Council’s action on April 24, 2017, in order 1, supporting the destruction of 56 mostly excellent trees and related outrages in the Magazine Beach recreation area.

2. Trash the Department of Conservation and Recreation as manager of all properties under its jurisdiction in Cambridge in favor of replacement by the Department of Transportation.

3. End the environmental outrages planned by the DCR and Cambridge and reverse, insofar as feasible, the many outrages accomplished by the DCR, Cambridge and related entities from November 1, 1999 to the current date.

Please don’t destroy the trees in Magazine Beach.  No.

There was one communication which disputed the sanity of anybody who would think that the Cambridge City Council could be so irresponsible.  And, since lack of sanity on our part was obvious to the writer, the writer supported the efforts of the Cambridge City Council.

There was another well written communication which seemed to ask for a study to determine if our allegations are true and, with restrained language, questioned the credibility of simultaneous supposedly pro environment actions by Cambridge, in light of Magazine Beach.

2. General.

Monday night was the Cambridge City Council first meeting in many weeks.

Among other things, the Cambridge City Council took yet another SECRET funding vote concerning Magazine Beach.  That SECRET funding vote, of course, would be unlikely to be SECRET unless those responsible were trying to hide something.

We have recently reported on the nonsensical and irresponsible reality behind the previous secret vote on funding with regard to the boat dock of the 20th Century which was destroyed in the 2000's by Cambridge and the DCR by making it inaccessible as a boat dock.

3. Distressing Reality.

Here, once again, is a link to my 51 page letter of June 6, 2017 to the Cambridge City Council transmitting the two PUBLIC plans of the Department of Conservation and Recreation for destruction, and placing them in context with a pretty much complete photo analysis of the Magazine Beach Recreation Area..

The Cambridge City Council’s order 1 of April 24, 2017 not only supported the destruction but gave the Department of Conservation and Recreation a blank check.

The original plans proposed destruction of 54 trees.  The DCR then wantonly destroyed two street trees which the MicroCenter shopping Center across the street had been lovingly caring for.  That destruction brought the pending / accomplished destruction and the impact of the Cambridge City Council’s blank check for destruction up to 56.

The link to the 6/6/17 letter:  http://focrwg.com/agenda1.html.

Here is my report to the Cambridge City Council on the accomplished destruction at the MicroCenter shopping center:  http://cambridgema.iqm2.com/Citizens/FileOpen.aspx?Type=1&ID=1825&Inline=True, pages 151 to 157.

And here is the original City Council vote:  http://cambridgema.iqm2.com/Citizens/FileOpen.aspx?Type=1&ID=1782&Inline=True, pages 309 and 310.
