Charles River - Memorial Drive Logging Start: Plans and photos, immediate apparent threat.

Charles River - Memorial Drive Logging Start: Plans and photos, immediate apparent threat.

ED:  Errata below.

Yesterday, I reported the start of what appears to be the imminent destruction of hundreds of trees on Memorial Drive on the Charles River by the Department of Conservation and Recreation and its cheerleaders.

The complete plans are posted here along with the letter which sent those plans to the Cambridge City Council:  http://charlesriverwhitegeeseblog.blogspot.com/2014/04/tree-destruction-plans-charles-river.html.

Here are the destruction plans for the area threatened apparently by imminent destruction.  The construction zone, so far, covers most of the area between Fowler Street and the Memorial Drive split.  The dark circles are trees planned for destruction.

The area between Fowler Street (2d plan) and the area of greatest threatened destruction of these plans (1st plan) is the one with the construction activities SO FAR.

Directly in the path of the currently laid out construction zone and very close to it, heading west, is one of the vile DCR / cheerleaders’ prime targets, the excellent 105 tree grove at the split the DCR and its cheerleaders want to destroy.

Here is a photo of the excellent grove.  It is the thickest accumulation of destruction on these plans.  And, as usual, reality planned gets worse.

The cheerleaders conducted a fundraiser for their favorite stalking horse last evening.  Their organizer cooed in an email about the great view of the Charles.  She neglected to mention that she and the fake group are fighting to destroy that view as well.

Errata:

My notes said that Fowler Street is the end of the construction zone. Regrettably, I interpreted my notes in the wrong direction in my report.

Fowler Street is the western end of the construction protection zone.  The area with trees CURRENTLY protected from construction is on the Memorial Drive median between Fowler Street and a construction trailer west of Endicott Street.  This is the second construction trailer from Endicott Street.

No trees on the sidewalks are CURRENTLY protected.  No trees west of Fowler Street are protected.

I just took a lot of photos.  I will follow up with photos, hopefully tomorrow.

Following is a third plan, east of the two above and including Endicott Street.

Sorry about my confusion.  I made the mistake of assuming I knew what I was doing.  That area west of Fowler Street sure looked small.  I started with Endicott as the eastern end and three maps.  Then I saw that my notes only mentioned Fowler.  POW.
