The most effective technique of Cambridge, the DCR and their cheerleaders is lying through omission.
They behave as responsible leaders, lying through omission of the outrages they commit.
In Cambridge, the combination helps a bad city council get reelected and helps a bad City Manager to stay in office or, as he is currently attempting, to designate his top assistant as his replacement and continue the City Manager Machine which has stayed in place with a lot of destruction since 1974. They simply lie through omission by keeping the destruction as secret as they can while loudly claiming to be holier than thou.
With regard to the Department of Conservation and Recreation, the lies of omission save them from the well deserved fate of the now dead Metropolitan District Commission. The MDC was destroyed by the legislature because of its extreme irresponsibility and divided on the Charles between the Department of Transportation (bridges) and the Department of Conservation and Recreation (the shores).
The destruction just achieved was planned by the MDC and carried with the planners to the DCR where they have destroyed and destroyed, and are looking for more destruction. They hope to avoid well deserved destruction of their organization once again by lying through omission or bragging with saccharine lies misrepresenting their record and, after all, what is destroyed is destroyed. And how dare anybody try to prevent future destruction.
The Cambridge "planners" have had a full say and support the outrage. The City Manager has publicly bragged of “improvements” on the Charles River.

But Cambridge and the DCR persist in their lies of omission. They constantly do things to make themselves look good and thus lie that they are responsible entities.
By contrast, MassDOT has been the adult in the room, repeatedly standing up to outrages by Cambridge / DRC simply because they are outrages. MassDOT is not perfect. Cambridge and the DCR approach being perfect in the wrong direction.
And their cheerleaders run around lying through fake and lovely organization names that they are responsible people.
Enclosed are leaflets that we have printed up in the last week and have started to distribute.
One leaflet communicates the outrage from an overview and goes more into motivation.
The other leaflet addresses the destruction planned at Magazine Beach in the context of their record.

Response, as usual, has been good. The reality is that most people are responsible and concerned. That is a striking difference from the lack of reality reflected by so many people active in government in Cambridge.
