IV. Official Report, Prior Reports in this Series.
I. Introductory.
This is the sixth report in a series presenting on the Internet a letter delivered to the Cambridge, MA, USA City Manager on June 6, 2017, and to the Cambridge, MA, USA by way of the City Clerk at the City Council meeting of June 12, 2017. The complete letter is posted by the Cambridge City Clerk in Color at http://cambridgema.iqm2.com/Citizens/FileOpen.aspx?Type=1&ID=1815&Inline=True, pages 198 to 149.
This report follows on the April 24, 2017 vote by the Cambridge City Council to seek money to support destruction by the Department of Conservation and Recreation of the Magazine Beach Recreation Area on the Charles River, including 54 mostly excellent trees, plus continuation and expansion of poisons on the banks of the Charles River, plus continuation and expansion of heartless animal abuse.
The Cambridge City Council took this action as the first order in its meeting IMMEDIATELY following a rally by Cambridge City Councilors on the steps of Cambridge City Hall praising themselves for their environmental sainthood.
This portion of the Internet transcription presents our sixth package of detailed photos of the destruction. We are proceeding from east to west. This segment continues the REALLY BIG TREE DESTRUCTION.
This destruction is of the magnificent grove which stands on the hill at the western end of the playing fields and dominates the playing fields.
These trees include very large, truly excellent, trees. They continue the worst of the horror.
The constant “explanation” of the fake group on the front line is: Do not look at what we are destroying. Look at what we tell you to look at.
Magazine Beach is west of the BU Bridge on the Charles River. You can also look at THE MOST RECENT PART OF the record of these terrible people, the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, the City of Cambridge, and their always varying front organizations / cheerleaders.
Here is a DCR map of the area in which the DCR, Cambridge, and their cheerleaders have destroyed already:
The destroyed area is the upper (northern) bank of the Charles River running from the BU Bridge on the far left to the Longfellow Bridge toward the top right.
The hundreds of trees plus animal habitat they have destroyed east of the BU Bridge on the Charles River is presented in our video on line at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTplCCEJP7o.
The reality of their “improvements” after the destruction East of the BU Bridge is presented at https://youtu.be/dWyCdcWMuAA.
The area they are attacking now is the area to the west of the BU Bridge running almost to the next bridge, the River Street Bridge. Here is another DCR Map.
The Magazine Beach Recreation Area is the green area above the Charles River. The BU Bridge is the grey area at the far right. The gray line above the green area is Memorial Drive, the boulevard following the Charles River on its north.
The destruction in this report is below (south) of the bottom of the double edged arrow. The magnificent grove being destroy stands at the curve facing the playing fields, a crucial act of environmental desecration..
It is at the top of a hill overlooking the Magazine Beach playing fields which were discussed in prior parts of this report.
The entire letter to the Cambridge City Manager and City Council is presented in the official report of that Cambridge City Council meeting. The file is large and takes quite a bit of time to download. It may be viewed in color at http://cambridgema.iqm2.com/Citizens/FileOpen.aspx?Type=1&ID=1815&Inline=True, pages 198 to 249.
In Section II(1), we present formal communcations which go into the outrage which is the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, into the Cambridge Development Department and into the lying machine through which the CDD and DCR do so many terrible things to the environment in and near Cambridge, MA.
The legislature, among other things, tried to protect the Charles River from the destructiveness of the Metropolitan District Commission when it destroyed the MDC. But the planners went to the DCR and have proceeded with the outrages.
The DCR bureaucrats have fellow destroyers controlling the City of Cambridge in the Cambridge Development Department and the collection of fake protective groups which have developed around the CDD during the reign of three Cambridge City Managers from 1974 to 2016. There is a new City Manager in office who is a lifelong Cambridge Resident which decades in Cambridge government, but independent from the DCD. Hopefully, he will clean up the mess he has inherited.
The outrage which is the DCR should be cleansed from the Charles River by action of the legislature comparable to the action by which the legislature destroyed the MDC in the first place.
The DCR should be replaced on the Charles River by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation which got the balance of the MDC’s power on the Charles River.
MassDOT is not perfect, but MassDOT has stood up to multiple outrages by the DCR and CDD. DCR and CDD and their cheerleaders approach being perfect, but from the wrong direction.
II. Repeats.
(1) Fraudulent Presentations, Heartless Animal Abuse, Poisons, and Flat out Fraud.
(A) The original summary of the overall report to the Cambridge City Manager and Cambridge City Council in the introduction to part 1 and in section 1 presented therewith is excellent, but it is so long that it would be silly to repeat it here. The original summary is posted at: http://charlesriverwhitegeeseblog.blogspot.com/2017/06/charles-river-what-is-being-destroyed.html.
At the same time, the analyses of Cambridge corruption presented in the following reports is of great value.
(B) The first is the debunking of yet another con game fighting for destruction, but is directed to the head of the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT), copies to the Cambridge City Manager and City Council.
Charles River: Con Game fights for Destruction: http://charlesriverwhitegeeseblog.blogspot.com/2017/06/charles-river-con-game-fights-for.html
(C) This was attached to the MassDOT letter and is free standing as well. It welcomed and briefed the then newly appointed (now current) City Manager on the environmental / planning outrage he inherited. It both briefed him on the latest fake organization, the one which is most visible in the front line fighting for destruction on the Charles River, and briefed him on the Cambridge Development Department, pulling a lot of strings from behind the scenes.
This report goes into detail on a 21 year plus fraud in which CCD lied as to the non existence of a major part of transportation plans on the Charles River, and EVERY SINGLE “EXPERT” ASSOCIATED WITH THE CITY OF CAMBRIDGE’S FAKE “PROTECTIVE GROUPS” PARROTED THIS BLATANT LIE FOR THE ENTIRE PERIOD.

(2) Index to Maps, sections 8 to 12, (new text description added).
Here are the two halves of the Black and White Plan for the excellent park on the Magazine Beach Hill. Marked on the map are portions of the map which show in sections of this report from section 8 to 12. Areas in sections 6 and 7 extend into the right (eastern) portion reported on previously. The area in this report is area 9, which is about 2/3 of the way down (south) in the middle of the combined maps below. The hill which this magnificent grove overhangs is to its right on the map.
The solid grey lines showing to the right of the grove (but separated because of the limits of our scanner) show the outlines of an expensive drainage system created in the 2000s to drain off poisons which Cambridge and the DCR first added to the environment of the playing fields to DRAIN OFF POISON ADDED by Cambridge and the DCR in the 2000s outrages. We reported on this system earlier.
Cambridge and the DCR, in their love for poisons clearly are adding poisons to the areas east of the BU Bridge and throughout the area of destruction at Magazine Beach. Please note, however, that poison usage is kept as secret as possible so that Cambridge and the DCR can lie that they are environmentally responsible. The statements in this paragraph are the result of 40 years of watching the CDD lying through omission of what terrible things it is doing, combined with observing the more blatant and destructive corruption coming out of the DCR.
A comment at one meeting from one of the “planners” sniffing at the “quality” of the native grass on the hill clearly indicated an intent to destroy and improve with their beloved poison drinking grass.
The short of it is they love poisons on the banks of the Charles River..
This section continues to use the numbering in the 51 page letter to the Cambridge City Manager and Cambridge City Council from which this material is derived. It has been edited to change reference language to conform to difference in presentation from hard copy to Blog.
This section presents the destruction of the magnificent grove which stands on the top of the hill at the western end of the Magazine Beach Playing fields. It dominates the playing fields.
We are honored to include the analysis of this grove by Phil Barber who has decades of experience in this area of the Charles River.
The destruction in this section is truly massive.
9. . Magnificent Grove on Hill, Overhanging Playing Fields.
A. Maps.
B. General Analysis.
The color package proposes no longer destroying 1 (two trees, Northwest group) of the 3 (10 trees) proposed to be destroyed. Looking closely at the original package, you will see recognized below the markings 6 or 7 trees rather than the 3 claimed. Phil Barber does an excellent analysis.
C. Phil Barber Analysis.
(1) Specific Analysis.
Here’s my analysis, which I believe is correctly oriented W/S/E rather than by number
W group (two trunks). Sound, light pruning optional.
SE [five trunks standing]. One trunk is dead, to be removed. Another has dead limbs near the top which should be pruned to encourage new growth and retard the spread of disease.
NE [three trunks, widest lower branching of the group]. Dead limbs in the upper areas of two trunks, to be pruned to encourage new growth and retard the spread of disease.
(2) More General (Earlier) Analysis.
A couple of the trunks are weak and dying and should be pruned. Other than that I would leave them alone. I think there's one that looks iffy in each of the two larger stands, and some of the upper branches have died and should be pruned. I have a number of trees and bushes I've planted at my place and was initially horrified at the idea of severely cutting them back after taking so much care to see they survived, but they do flourish with such treatment.
It's certainly an outrage to destroy entire stands because of some deadwood or unsightly growth. I see this all too often, that trees that have valiantly survived the elements and abuse are cut down simply because someone judges them not to be sufficiently aesthetic. I imagine people who lack the awareness that these are living beings deserving of care simply see the bottom line, that it's cheaper to ruin an irreplaceable old tree and put in a new one, as if it didn't matter.
I've also seen city workers on the job in the various little parks and public landscaping hacking away willy-nilly at the vegetation blissfully unaware of the difference between weeds and plantings. The lack of concern, and of knowledge, is appalling but such is our time.
Anyway thanks again for all your hard working protecting our resources.
D. Response to Phil Barber.
Please note that the portion of the grove (NE, upper right) that is not to be destroyed as of latest DCR comment needs work but not destruction.
The portion that Phil describes as essentially perfect (W, left) is slated for destruction. The other portion (SE, lower right) has one tree that needs to be destroyed, and a second with bad limbs.
Terrible department, terrible department.
E. Photos.
The photos in this section are from October 2016 unless stated otherwise.
I strongly suggest that you either contact me at boblat@yahoo.com for the PDF version, or you check the official Cambridge record at http://cambridgema.iqm2.com/Citizens/FileOpen.aspx?Type=1&ID=1815&Inline=True, page 198 to 149, because limitations on this blog severely minimize the quality of the shots I can give you here of these massive trees.
If you go for the official version, be aware that these 51 pages are part of a much larger document, all of which you have to load to see these 51 pages.
