RE: Cambridge Common and Flagstaff Park Enhancement Project, EEA # 14947

Ms. Holly S. Johnson
MEPA
Commonwealth of Massachusetts

Dear Ms. Johnson:

Let me see, Cambridge wants to destroy 22 trees on the Cambridge Common because they are blocking the view.

Oh, come on now.

The nicest thing that can be said about such a proposal is that it is yet another example of the environmentally corrupt situation in Cambridge, MA, USA.

PREQUIL. Why the lies on subway possibilities?

The Cambridge Administration has spent ten or twenty years lying that there is only one option under consideration for Urban Ring rail. This is the option which would further destroy the Charles River animal habitat next to the BU Bridge. Since Cambridge is working with state bureaucrats to kill off animals all over the place, that makes sense to them.

Their position is not only false but the legislature is spending millions subsidizing the upgrade of Yawkey Station which is part of the responsible alternative. And Yawkey Station would have to be moved under the alternative which Cambridge lies is the only alternative being considered.

Plus, of the two alternatives, the Kenmore Crossing (which Cambridge says does not exist) is the only meaningful alternative for environmental and transportation considerations. A common situation with regard to Cambridge’sdestructive policies: spouted as the only reasonable course when reality is the opposite.

All of these maps are documents from the MBTA, the local transit company.

1. MBTA Urban Ring, BU Bridge Crossing, Cambridge Side

This is the alternative for which the Cambridge Administration puts out a pretty much non stop lie that it is the only alternative under consideration. The long hashed line parallel to and crossing the Charles River and having two dots on it is the proposed streetcar / light rail line.

The dot in the very middle of the picture is an station at Massachusetts Avenue in the middle of the MIT campus. The dot to the very left is a station at Putnam Avenue in Cambridge. The crossing would be to the immediate east of the Grand Junction line, apparently breaking off to go underground after going under Memorial Drive, thus directly impacting and harming the wildlife habitat south of Memorial Drive including the nesting area of the Charles River White Geese.

Even a brief review of this photo demonstrates very severe harm to their habitat.

2. MBTA Urban Ring, Kenmore Crossing.

In this alternative, the Mass. Ave. Station continues to exist but, quickly after going under Mass. Ave., the Heavy Rail / Orange Line alternative swings south. First it goes under the MIT playing fields and then it goes under the Charles River, a much less environmentally destructive option.

The Cambridge Administration has spent ten or twenty years saying that this alternative does not exist.

It is environmentally responsible in dramatic contrast to the Administration’s falsely described “only” route.

It has been subsidized by millions of dollars from the Legislature to upgrade Yawkey Station in place. Yawkey station in its current location is a key part of the Kenmore Crossing. The Cambridge Administration’s “only” route would require Yawkey Station to be moved a half mile or more.

3. MBTA Urban Ring, Boston Side.

Three maps follow the text in this letter. [Ed: in this reprint, these three maps are inserted with the text.] The first is the MBTA’s unedited presentation of the two alternatives on the Boston side. This is followed by my edit emphasizing the BU Bridge Crossing and my edit emphasizing the Kenmore Crossing. These maps are presented separately from text because trying to combine text and maps has confused my computer, even after upgrading the computer.

A. General Map.

This map is a good way to compare the relative locations of the two options and to see almost all the shared part.

The shared part is in the lower extreme of the map. The alternate lines are shown by moderately heavy broken lines.

The BU Bridge Crossing curves down from the left and meets the Kenmore Crossing which is a straight line top to bottom. The two lines meet under Brookline Avenue just before Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and curve in deep bore construction under BIDMC.

The wider black rectangle just after the curve ends is the proposed Longwood Medical Area Station under Longwood Avenue at Louis Pasteur Boulevard.

The line curves just before Huntington Avenue under the Massachusetts College of Art. It then curves again at Ruggles Street under undeveloped property of the Wentworth Institute of Technology. It ends at Ruggles Station on the Orange Line which is just off the map at bottom right.

Ruggles Station is off the map at bottom right.

B. BU Bridge Crossing.

The BU Bridge crossing would be constructed under University Road, which works as an on and off ramp for east bound traffic on Soldiers Field Road / Storrow Drive.

The path is hard to make out. At the top of the map, just south of the Charles River, the path is just to the left of “BU”. It turns and comes to a black rectangle indicating the combined Urban Ring station at St. Mary’s and the relocated Yawkey Station. Connection to the Green Line Commonwealth Avenue branch is by tunnel under St. Mary’s dropping people on the south sidewalk of Commonwealth Avenue.

The route then turns at Park Drive and comes to another underground station between a new Green Line Station under Beacon Street (Green Line, Cleveland Circle branch) and the Riverside Station (Riverside Branch of the Green Line).

These two stations attempt to duplicate the function of the Urban Ring station in the Kenmore Crossing located between Yawkey and Kenmore Stations and creating one big megastation.

The necessary new station on the Cleveland Circle line (C branch) at Beacon and Park Drive to make the connection with the Urban Ring streetcar is not shown on the map.

C. MBTA Urban Ring, Boston Side, Kenmore Crossing.

The Kenmore Crossing tunnel runs under Raleigh Street in eastern Kenmore Square.

As shown, the Kenmore Crossing would have a new station under Brookline Avenue with direct connections to Yawkey Station, Kenmore Station and Fenway Park, creating covered connections among Commuter Rail, Urban Ring and the three Green Line Branches.

The new station shows on the map as a solid rectangle rising to the right slightly more than half an inch below “Kenmore Square.”

Yawkey Station shows on the map as the less large black rectangle above and to the left of the proposed Urban Ring station.

The legislature is spending millions upgrading Yawkey Station. Thus, Yawkey Station is not going anywhere, contrary to the needs of the BU Bridge Crossing.

The legislature has spent millions subsidizing the Kenmore Crossing and making the alternative the Cambridge Administration claims does not exist (Kenmore Crossing) much more likely than the one the Cambridge The Cambridge Administration claims is the only one Crossing that exists (BU Bridge Crossing).

The Kenmore Crossing line proceeds under Brookline Ave., going under BIDMC as shown on the General Map.

4. Reality and the Cambridge Administration.

The Cambridge Administration and its activists and influenced organizations have spent years denying the existence of the Kenmore Crossing.

They have no meaningful argument for the BU Bridge Crossing.

The Kenmore Crossing is far superior both from an environmental and a transportation point of view. It has now received millions of dollars in subsidies in the legislature’s funds for the upgrading of Yawkey Station in place.

It is hard to escape the obvious strategy of the Cambridge Administration.

When you cannot possibly win on the merits, lie.

So they simply and repeatedly for very many years have denied that the Kenmore Crossing exists.

POSTSCRIPT, history of this report.

This report was submitted a few weeks ago to the Cambridge City Council as an appendix to my letter objecting to plans to attack the Charles River White Geese and other resident animals by destroying their tiny remaining urban wild by ringing the main portion with a new highway and splitting it off from the adjacent urban wild with a fence.

In this printing, I have cleaned up presentation of the plans (computer problem off line), and corrected one distressing typo.

The Cambridge City Clerk’s posting of the letter may be seen as appendix 1 at http://www2.cambridgema.gov/CityOfCambridge_Content/documents/LaTremouille%20com.pdf.

The rather clear pattern of dishonesty on this matter very much fits the large scale existence of “independent” organizations with interlocking friendships to the Cambridge Administration. My report on the passing of the first of the City of Cambridge’s City Manager regency went into massive environmental destruction with such a group in the middle of it.

The situation has simply gotten much more massive and more destructive since then.

First half of Cambridge, MA, USA, City Manager Regency Passes Away

The Cambridge Chronicle at page B3 of its October 4, 2012 edition printed an extended obituary for former Cambridge City Manager James Leo Sullivan. The current Cambridge City Manager Robert Healy was Sullivan’s Assistant City Manager and replaced him very much in the manner of the Crown being passed on to the Crown Prince.

Reading from the obituary, James Leo first served as Cambridge City Manager from 1968 to spring 1970. From fall 1970 to 1974, he served as City Manager in his home town of Lowell, MA. He returned to Cambridge in 1974 bringing along his assistant, the current Cambridge City Manager. James Leo served until 1981 when he retired and was replaced by Robert Healy. James Leo proceeded to lead the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce from then until 1991.

Continuing from the obituary, James Leo was born December 11, 1924, and grew up in Somerville, near Inman Square, Cambridge. He passed away peacefully on September 26, 2012 at a facility in New Jersey.

James Leo’s administration had friends in the first of the Cambridge Machine organizations to be created. James Leo wanted to destroy the best park in the Mid-Cambridge neighborhood and, da da, a “neighborhood association” announced its creation and proceeded to help in the destruction, including more than 23 one hundred year old trees. I obtained a preliminary injunction on appeal, next to impossible but I did it. In the trial, the judge found that magnificent park to be not a park and authorized its destruction, bragging about all the saplings which would be planted at the far end of that block. Almost all of the saplings were destroyed as part of phase II of the related projects on that site. No mention was made of phase 2 when phase 1 was destroying those excellent trees.

The Cambridge Common, which is currently under attack, is perhaps six blocks west of this destruction.

There was great bitterness at the original firing of James Leo and a bit of vindication at his return.

The Cambridge Machine has been pivotal in a lot of outrageous destruction. The participation of the Cambridge Machine in the outrages on the Charles River and at Alewife could be interpreted as the regency showing just how rotten the power structure in Cambridge, MA is.

The replacement, Robert Healy continues to serve in spite of judicial findings in the case of Malvina Monteiro that Healy destroyed the life of Malvina Monteiro in retaliation for her filing a women’s rights complaint. Monteiro is a black Cape Verdean woman who ran the Cambridge Police Review Board until her firing.

The judicial decisions clearly found malfeasance in office by Robert Healy, authorizing the Cambridge City Council to fire him without golden parachute and, possibly without pension.

The Monteiro case, if the regency was trying to prove the rottenness of the Cambridge political structure, did an excellent job of really strengthening the stench. A city council which constantly calls itself holier than thou, by not wanting to know of the real court findings have shown very real contempt for Women’s Rights at the same time as loudly proclaiming concern for Women’s Rights.

The same con applies to the Cambridge Machine’s non-stop lying of concern for the environment as well.

22 Trees proposed to be destroyed on the Cambridge Common.

Cambridge, MA, USA, has an Environmental Notification Form out on tree destruction they are proposing on the Cambridge Common.

They, at the top of page 3, the end of the first complete paragraph, propose to destroy 22 trees.

Why? They are blocking the view.

This is the sort of sickness which is normal in the City of Cambridge, MA, USA.

City Council Letter on the Grand Junction attack on the Charles River White Geese

I filed a large package with the Cambridge City Council and have given you a link to the city clerk’s posted copy, at http://www2.cambridgema.gov/CityOfCambridge_Content/documents/LaTremouille%20com.pdf. That is a very large file and a lot is lost because color documents have been reproduced in black and white.

I have hesitated to post it because I am pushing my application knowledge and because this is a lot of work. I have broadened my knowledge, so here goes. I will lead with the three attachments. They are so important, I do not want to lose them way down in this report. The appendices will be posted separately.

The actual letter will follow the attachments.

RE: Grand Junction Development Discussions and Related (Alewife, Charles River, Urban Ring rail)

Ladies/Gentlemen:

This follows up on my comments at the Committee Meeting of August 7, 2012 concerning a small vehicle highway on the Grand Junction which would inflict very major destruction on the Charles River. The report continues the Administration’s lie that there is only one rail proposal for mass transit / Urban Ring planning.

[Ed: See attachment 1, above with regard to the route analysis. Attachment 2 shows a new fence blocking access between the two animal areas on either side of the Grand Junction.]

The proposed small vehicle highway, for environmental, animal abuse, and cost reasons, should not go south of Memorial Drive. The route should turn east just prior to the buildings on Memorial Drive on either side of the Grand Junction. This responsible alternative should be built between the building on the corner of Memorial Drive and Vassar Street and the building behind it on Vassar Street. There is an ample undeveloped area there to get the route to Vassar Street where it could connect to Memorial Drive.

The responsible route would remove major harm to the environment and to the Charles River White Geese. It would give bicyclists much more direct access to Memorial Drive and would significantly reduce costs.

This small vehicle highway as proposed would have major, destructive impact on the Charles River both on the Cambridge side and on the Boston side. The supposed Boston side proposal does not even show any form of linking on the Boston side, perhaps because it would be so destructive and expensive.

The 2006 report is notable for blatant hypocrisy giving, as usual, the false impression of concern for the environment, particularly the impression of concern for the Charles River White Geese, the 30 plus year residents whom Cambridge and its friends have been attacking and deliberately starving since 2004.

The 2006 report features a photo of the head of one of the members of the gaggle on its front page. The photo is part of the standard format throughout this outrage. The proposal would destroy for animal use the tiny nesting area to which they have been confined. Destruction would be accomplished by building a new highway at perimeters of this area (see pages 3-3, 3-4 and 3-5). The proposal would block access between this area and the hill east of the Grand Junction by building a fence along the railroad track (page 4-6). Pages 3-5 and 4-6 are attached.

On page 3-5, after reviewing the planned destruction, back up the Grand Junction to the point where this broken light / dark line intersects with a light solid line. This is the point where responsible planning would connect the proposed small vehicle highway to Vassar Street by running the new highway between the two buildings through the opening to the right and then to Memorial Drive. Compare the amount of work and expense involved in the two routes and compare the convenience to bicyclists on the two routes. There is no meaningful competition between the two routes. The Vassar Street route is the better of the two on all counts.

Cambridge has forced this tiny area on the Charles River White Geese as their sole habitat by the outrages at the Magazine Beach playing fields. You are now building another impenetrable thicket to make the northern part of this tiny area inaccessible to them. See Appendix 3. Now you are destroying this area to them by this circumferential highway and the bizarre fence. And the Administration’s proposal, once again, is nonsensical if you share the Administration’s supposed goals.

And the Administration lies of affection for these beautiful animals by using that photo including a goose’s head throughout the document.

This irresponsible proposal would build on the deliberate starvation of these beautiful thirty plus year residents since 2004.

As with past destruction on the Charles River and the mass animal killings and woodland destruction at Alewife, the destruction on the Charles River associated with the small vehicle highway on the Grand Junction is totally avoidable.

Impact of environmental destruction on the Charles of this nature has already been condemned by last fall’s joint report of the Department of Transportation and the Department of Conservation and Recreation concerning connectivity on the lower Charles River basin and in the reports on the Anderson, Western Avenue and River Street Bridges.

Any connection of the new Grand Junction highway on the Boston side can only be done with the same construction on the river involved with regard to the Cambridge side of the three bridges. Construction on the Cambridge side would involve the same destruction of fragile land, plus would be highly harmful to the valuable 30 plus year resident gaggle of the Charles River White Geese.

Almost all ground vegetation between the BU Bridge and the BU Boathouse has been destroyed by your agents since 2003. The state does nothing which is not acceptable to the Cambridge administration.

The fake environmental assessments give no mention to this latest heartless animal abuse, although your heartless abuse of the Charles River White Geese would be a fraction of the mass animal kill achieved by you in the unnecessary destruction at Alewife last October and November. Please see Appendix 3.

The report includes repetition of the flat out lie which the Administration has been putting out concerning the rail options in the Urban Ring, to wit that the Kenmore Crossing option does not exist. Among other things, the report gives detailed analysis of impact on everything going on on the Grand Junction except for the rail alternative the Administration claims does not exist. This analysis in the PDF version is at pages 110 to 138 of the 158 pages in the document. Please see the official MBTA maps in Appendix 1 showing the reality of the Urban Ring rail proposals.

The legislature has given the lie to the decade plus falsehoods by subsidizing the Kenmore Crossing, the responsible Urban Ring rail alternative. The legislature has funded the Kenmore Crossing alternative by providing millions for the rebuilding in place of Yawkey Station, a key part of the Kenmore Crossing. Yawkey Station is a station which the Administration’s BU Bridge crossing needs to move to near BU’s Marsh Chapel. But the administration says that the Kenmore Crossing does not exist.

Appendices

Appendix 1 responds to and proves as lies the pattern of repeated statements by the Cambridge Administration concerning the Urban Ring rail system and its relationship to the Grand Junction that the only Urban Ring rail alternative is its favorite, the BU Bridge crossing, and that the Kenmore Crossing does not exist.

Appendix 2 goes into the lies by which Cambridge has indulged in massive, valueless environmental destruction at Alewife including totally wasteful destruction of acres of irreplaceable woodland last October and November including killing of hundreds of animals. This effort is ongoing since intentions are very clearly to massively multiply the environmental destruction and killings.

Key in the current situation is stalling by North Cambridge residents associated with the Cambridge Machine to make the responsible alternative unavailable to the City Council and the only option available perhaps total destruction of Alewife. They want people, once again, to yell at local developers rather than yell at the City Council and the Cambridge Administration which should be taking underground property rights by eminent domain for flood storage, but the developers are going forward and the possibility of joint use of their properties could quickly disappear.

Please note that appendix 2 is dated. The property between the parking lot and the Alewife Reservation is now also proposed for condo construction. The two condo projects should, along with the massive parking lot be built with an underground easement for flood storage which is badly needed by North Cambridge. Destruction, so far, at Alewife will only protect against the worst possible storm in two years. Underground construction by easement could satisfy full 100 year flood needs. Delay would give “no choice” other than massive expansion of the already unreasonable environmental destruction and mass animal killing.

As a third photo attachment I am enclosing the 160 CambridgePark Drive developer’s plans. You have destroyed most of the area below the river marked “Alewife Brook Reservation”. The yellow structure is the first of the planned condos. The area between it and the destroyed “Alewife Brook Reservation” is the second project. The parking lot which is readily available for use for flood storage stretches to the right of the 160 project to Alewife Brook Parkway.

Appendix 3 goes into the existing outrages achieved at Magazine Beach and this year’s attacks on the destroyed nesting area.

None of the destruction in the appendices has been meaningfully discussed in public prior to the fact. Lies and lies of omission have been normal.

Appendix 4 is my point by point notes on the 2006 study.

Sincerely,

Robert J. La Trémouille

To Cambridge City Council: “Protect the Geese”

The following has been received from Mr. Peter Valentine through a third party. It seems to be speaker’s notes for the September 24 meeting of the Cambridge City Council. He is speaking in support of the communication I had on the list.

I have posted links to the communication I sent. My principal point was to object the highway the Administration proposes to destroy the core goose habitat with and propose a responsible alternative which would do the job better for less.

In support of that I included detailed response to the non stop lies by the administration that the Kenmore Crossing does not exist as part of Urban Ring plans, analysis and photos of destruction at Alewife, and analysis and photos of destruction at Magazine Beach including the core goose habitat. Mr. Valentine had three communications on the list Monday night. This is in addition to them.

My communication was placed on file.

The third party communicates as follows. My most significant edits are to remove Peter’s address and to add asterisks for clarification.

***********

Peter has asked me to give you a copy of his communication to the City Council, stamped as submitted September 24 at 5:09 pm:

********

Peter Valentine

What I have to say will take approximately 2 1/2 minutes

And since the Massachusetts constitution guarantees the people in Article 19 the right to give instructions to their representatives

And since the mass Constitution and US Constitutions prevail over any and all city constitutions And since the council has sworn oath to uphold both I'm sure everything will be all right.

The flock of geese long residing near magazine beach both. Have a location Harvard, MIT and Boston University specifically on the Cambridge side. There is no such flock anywhere in the Boston area or surrounding area, specifically on the Cambridge side. And also chose a location where there were citizens available to protect them and feed them if necessary against the brutalities of man, who have recked havoc on The Earth destroying the air, poisoning the land and polluting the oceans with garbage and all manner of junk.

Anyone aware of the infinite subtly with which the Creator brings for The Glory would know that these birds having done such are very intelligent and have come to be with us to assist in protecting our intelligent quality way of life.

Although I know that this city government does a highly qualified job in its city operations, it doesn't have the understanding to see the meaning of why these birds have come to be with us and stayed with us so long.

I would ask them to stop there plan of slowly killing off these creatures for the sake of increasing traffic, parking and profits.

But I know they won't.

I so I ask The Creator to protect this flock of intelligent creatures and provide a good place for them to live with us.

And also I ask The Creator to see to it that magazine beach is kept as a well taken care open field for the people of Cambridge to get away to and relax from the tensions of city activity and to refresh themselves sitting by a beautiful calming river.

His cover note says in part, "I was inspired to do it by Roberts' extensive report also submitted to the Council.

"So be sure he gets a copy.

Communication on Grand Junction, Alewife, Charles River, attacks on Charles River White Geese nearly fully posted on the Internet by Cambridge City Clerk.

I reported yesterday that I had filed this package with the Cambridge City Clerk for the Cambridge City Council, with copies to Councilor / Representative Toomey, and the two state agencies.

The communication responds to the Development Department’s attacks on the environment in many ways. The immediate cause is the direct attack on the Charles River White Geese with their proposed highway, especially since the alternative is unharmful, more direct and thus more functional, and much cheaper. Sounds like business as usual from the City of Cambridge.

I am nevertheless impressed by the on line publication by the City Clerk.

Key in this reprinting are the 4th and 5th pages, showing the damage being inflicted on the Charles River White Geese and the alternative. I will post my report anyway but cite these pages since they are much easier to access than the version buried in the archives and cross references of the Development Department.

The 6th page of the posting does show the limitations of the City Clerk’s procedures.

This is the map by Mr. McKinnon showing the situation at Alewife and his project's part in it. The trouble is that his map is in color and the repro in black and white. It loses a lot in black and white. This I am pretty certain I can upload.

The only omission I have been able to find so far is the second page of Appendix 2 concerning McKinnon’s project and its interrelationship to the wanton and wasteful destruction at Alewife. The second page shows the parking lot where his project currently is. Failure to print that page does a lot to gut the argument, although my analysis in the main letter points out (referring to colors in a black and white reprint) that McKinnon’s project along with the adjacent row of parking lots plus the new project between his and the destruction at Alewife should be used for the underground flood storage, not the apparently planned near total destruction of the Alewife reservation.

The black and white conversion, however, really does a job on my beautiful package.

With these shortcomings, please review this strikingly good posting. I will follow up with my own posting on these pages, with my own shortcoming.

My commendation to the Cambridge City Clerk.

Plans for more destruction attacking the Animals of the Charles River.

A few weeks ago, I reported on a city council hearing concerning a new highway proposed to be constructed along the Grand Junction Railroad which would directly impact the Charles River White Geese.

I have submitted an extended analysis of the package to the Cambridge City Council, Councilor Toomey, the state’s Department of Transportation and the state’s Department of Conservation and Recreation.

I will post my communication in parts shortly. I have been trying to figure out how to handle a massive PDF document of more than a hundred pages.

The document can be obtained at http://www.cambridgema.gov/cdd/search.aspx?q=Grand Junction Rail-with-Trail&site=cdd, by doing a search for “Grand Junction Rail-With-Trail” and then going to PDF Page 37 (officially page 3-5).

If you look at the lower right, you will see a good map representation of the area we are mostly concerned about, the Destroyed Nesting Area of the Charles River White Geese.

The Destroyed Nesting Area and its environs are in the right hand portion of the bottom.

The BU (Boston University) Bridge is clearly marked and the Grand Junction Railroad Bridge is clear above it and traveling under it.

The area between these structures is the Destroyed Nesting Area of the Charles River White Geese.

Memorial Drive is to the left of the DNA and raised. The hash marks to the right of Memorial Drive are on the on ramp to Memorial Drive from the BU Bridge. Most of the area next to the on ramp is a steep slope and I have shown you photos of the slope.

The outrage is the marking in the middle of the DNA. This, casually presented, is a proposal to destroy the DNA for animal habitat. The euphemism is “bike path”. The reality is massive destruction. This highway would follow the Grand Junction Railroad to the bridge. It would travel down a slope heavily used by the Charles River White Geese and their friends. It would go straight ahead through favored animal habitat on the edge, continue around the nesting area on the edge and go up that hill to the ramp again.

The portion which follows the Grand Junction would have a fence constructed along its length, preventing access to the wooded area above railroad by the Charles River White Geese.

So they are fully destroying the Nesting Area for animal use and preventing access to the area they have not destroyed.

To make it worse, as usual, there is a responsible alternative which would do the job better and cheaper.

In about the middle portion of the map, this highway called a bike path crosses another proposed roadway which is a solid gray.

Until the bike highway gets to this point, coming from the Nesting Area, it follows a building which faces on Memorial Drive.

The opposite side of that building is Vassar Street, which ends on Memorial Drive. Vassar Street turns at a point which is very close to the crossing of those two proposed highways. Vassar Street is only separated from this intersection by a parking lot.

It would be simple and very direct to turn the bike highway at this point, run it through the parking lot, along Vassar Street and end it at Memorial Drive.

The markings which follow Memorial Drive to its right are an existing bike highway to which the proposed bike highway is intended to connect.

Compare the difference between running the new bike highway through animal habitat and running it down Vassar Street?

Which is more direct? Which is shorter for the bicycle operators? Which is shorter, cheaper and more efficient?

Vassar Street, of course, by a long shot.

But there is a value to running the Bike Highway through the Destroyed Nesting Area. The Department of Conservation and Recreation has a goal of killing off all resident animals on the Charles River Basin. It is buried in their secret definition of parkland. The long route, at the expense of the supposed purpose of the highway, gloriously kills off animals, the Charles River White Geese and other free animals living there.

Here is a photo from the ramp / existing bike highway, perhaps where the new and very destructive highway would go.

We are dealing with really rotten people.

Boston University presents its plans for the Boston side of the Charles River

Boston University is making a presentation on its plans for Campus expansion. It is tonight, 6:00 PM, September 10, 2012 at the Boston University School of Management Building – Room 424 (4th Floor), 595 Commonwealth Avenue, Boston, MA.

I have done a cursory review of the Institutional Master Plan Notification form.

With that brief review, I note that the massive double dorm behind BU’s Athletic Arena which dominates the Boston view from Magazine Beach, will become three towers with another tower built to the west on top of a parking lot.

Additionally, please note the Institutional Master Plan Notification Form, http://www.bostonredevelopmentauthority.org/DevelopmentProjects/PipeDocs/Boston%20University%20IMP%202012/Boston%20University%20IMP%202012_IMPNF.pdf, page 40 in PDF reading, figure 6-4.

This shows planned development from Commonwealth Avenue to Storrow Drive / Soldiers Field Road of all the property on the Boston side near the BU Bridge. Their plans start slightly west of the curve of the Grand Junction just after the Railroad Bridge crosses Soldiers Field Road. The plans run east to include the western portion of the Student Union.

This area includes major open space west of the BU Bridge and major undeveloped land between the BU Bridge and University Road, which serves as access to and from Storrow Drove / Soldiers Field Road east bound. The portion of the Student Union considered for development is just east of University Road.

The plans also include I90, the Massachusetts Turnpike from the same western end to Beacon Street, near Kenmore Square in Boston. BU owns all the land to the north of the Mass. Pike in that area. Interestingly, the plans do not include the rather small area between Beacon Street and Brookline Avenue. This area includes Yawkey Station which features very prominently in Urban Ring rail planning.

Mention of the Cambridge side of the Charles River is negligible. The presentation is made under the aegis of the Boston Redevelopment Authority, the City of Boston’s planning agency.

ADDENDUM:

A friend on facebook wished me good luck at the meeting.

My response:

Thanks for the good wishes.

The reality is that I have been through too many meetings with too many unthinking cheerleaders. I thought these plans, in particular, might interest folks.

They are being very non specific and very early on particular plans near the Charles other than the third tower. This is except for an addition to the Law School which, in reality is a 5 story increase in height on top of the existing campus steam heat plant.

That addition to height will not, supposedly be any closer to the Charles than the existing building.

The perhaps meaningful heavy hitters lost a long time ago on the dorm fight.

Interesting omission: I do not recall seeing in the report their very major games with regard to boathouses on the Boston side of the Charles. That effort was a typical game from the "activists". As I recall, the "activists" were bragging about size or location of a new massive building in the Charles near Kenmore. The last thing the "activists" would consider was whether this new construction in the Charles is responsible or even whether it made sense.

NOW joins the Cambridge Machine, abandons women?

On September 6, 2012, the Cambridge Chronicle, on page A10 of its hard copy, printed a letter supporting Cambridge City Councilor Marjorie Decker for State Representative. I do not see it on line. The following is my proposed response with some edits:

**********

Editor
Cambridge Chronicle

I am fascinated by the letter written by Aliza Chimene-Weiss apparently on behalf of NARAL, Pro-Choice Massachusetts, National Organization for Women (NOW) and the Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts.

She says that Marjorie Decker is well qualified as State Representative because Decker fills the mandates for a member of the US Congress. Ms. Decker has stayed in office as a city councilor perhaps because she claims she would make a great congressperson.

I can see 3 of the groups, with pro abortion emphasis, going along with this letter but I am very disappointed in NOW.

I was a feminist before significant numbers of women were feminists and I am very disappointed in NOW for supporting a candidate with Decker’s real record.

Decker’s real record on feminism and women’s rights is very real and very practical. It is MONTEIRO, MONTEIRO, MONTEIRO.

The Cambridge City Manager has been condemned in court up to the level of the Appeals Courts because he destroyed the life of Malvina Monteiro in retaliation for Monteiro filing a complaint alleging mistreatment because she is a woman.

The Appeals Court panel said: “Ample evidence of . . . outrageous behavior.”

The Superior Court judge said “reprehensible,” summarizing an extended analysis of misbehavior by the Cambridge City Manager.

The Superior Court jury said: $1.1 million real damages, MORE THAN triple penal damages, $3.5 million.

This combination of decisions empowers the Cambridge City Council to fire the Cambridge Manager without golden parachute and possibly without pension.

There are exactly ZERO members of the Cambridge City Council who seem to be meaningfully working to implement the core opinions in the Monteiro Case. There are exactly ZERO members of the Cambridge City Council who support meaningful implementation of the Monteiro case, firing the Cambridge City Manager because he destroyed a woman’s life in retaliation for her filing a women’s rights complaint. Decker is one of the people who stand for ZERO.

But Decker sounds so great when she is talking things not part of her responsibilities.

I am very disappointed in NOW for apparently supporting a candidate with this irresponsible a record. NOW is looking like the members of the Cambridge Machine, or is it (and I do not know) controlled by the Cambridge Machine?

I think NOW should reverse itself and support women’s rights in a meaningful manner. NOW should condemn Decker, not endorse her.

New Alewife Project; Cambridge Machine still on attack

1. Materials concerning Alewife.
2. Public Presentation on Hines Project, 165 Cambridgepark Drive.
3. Context, summary.

1. Materials concerning Alewife.

Last night, August 29, 2012, I attended a meeting sponsored by the North Cambridge branch of the Cambridge Machine concerning a project planned for 165 CambridgePark Drive, directly abutting the environmental destruction and animal killing achieved in the Alewife reservation by Cambridge and their friends in state government.

A lot of materials are on line, accessible from http://www.cambridgema.gov/CDD/zoninganddevelopment/specialpermits/specialpermits.aspx.

Unfortunately, the specific submissions are not downloadable. So it is a matter of going down the list and clicking on the project.

PB272, 165 CambridgePark Drive, Plans, page 4 (marked page 3) provides an excellent map of the area, including the massive environmental destruction by Cambridge and the DCR directly north of the project.

The following is a copy of a photo of a model of the project and the 160 CambridgePark Drive project from a view above the destroyed part of the Alewife Reservation. It is taken from an email by the North Cambridge Machine front organization. The proposed construction for 165 is nearer. The proposal for 160 is across the street behind 165.

These buildings are massive and irresponsible, but that is not the fault of the developers. It is the fault of an extremely irresponsible city government’s bad zoning, with major assistance from the participants in the Cambridge Machine.

2. Public Presentation on Hines Project, 165 Cambridgepark Drive.

The developer, the Hines people, incorrectly described the environmental destruction behind 165 CambridgePark Drive as flood protection. I corrected them and put things in perspective.

The acres of totally wasteful destruction of virgin woods and animals by Cambridge and the state was accomplished last October and November.

My photos of the destruction appear at: http://charlesriverwhitegeeseblog.blogspot.com/2012/02/cambridge-pols-destroy-alewife-photo.html.

Photo number 6 featuring one lone not destroyed tree probably shows 165 in the background.

Photo number 7 shows 160 as it is now, an undeveloped parking lot.

When it comes to the Cambridge Machine, it is always impossible to tell the knaves from the fools.

My exchange at the meeting was primarily with the individual who most looks like a knave. There were two other people in the room who could be victims. They spent a lot of money chasing their tails trying to stand up to this project. The Cambridge Machine tries to get as many people as possible chasing their tails.

I specifically stated that the great problem in the area is the Machine yelling at developers rather than yelling at the people responsible, the Cambridge City Council.

I condemned the Machine for its non stop yelling at the developers and ominously significant silence toward the highly destructive AND RESPONSIBLE Cambridge City Council.

There are two options at Alewife.

The abutting North Cambridge needs flood protection. Cambridge and the state have accomplished acres of destruction of magnificent trees and animals, lying that they were providing flood protection.

Cambridge and the state are providing protection against the worst possible storm in any two year period. The neighbors need protection against the worst possible storm in any 100 year period.

That protection can either be gotten by government underground construction of flood protection as part of these two projects and under the massive parking lot which extends under the parking lot behind 160 and runs to a railroad right of way on the south and Alewife Brook Parkway on the east.

The stalling and con games of the Cambridge Machine are taking away the use of 160 and 165 for flood protection because if the buildings get built without flood protection, they will be there.

That leaves a much smaller area, the large parking lot, and the rest of the Alewife reservation.

I condemned the Machine’s representatives because by refusing to talk with the Cambridge City Council to get the needed flood protection in responsible locations, they are fighting for massive if not total destruction of the Alewife Reservation.

The individual who looks like the local knave responding with a script from central casting.

He did express his distress that there was no retail in the project, also part of the script. Retail, retail, retail. The project can see two good sized shopping centers on the other side of the railroad tracks. The machine wants retail, retail, retail and lies about which side it is on.

Also present was a member of the falsely named “Friends” of Alewife Reservation which fought for and achieved the totally avoidable destruction. Usual tactics, tell people to look at everything else and lie that you are concerned. He spouted nicely.

3. Context, summary.

Richie McKinnon, the rather clear developer of 160 CambridgePark Drive was present.

He has had medical problems. He looked very good.

As I left, he was talking with the Hines people.

The situation at Alewife is that the local front for Cambridge Machine is about as low as you can go.

They are fighting for outrageous, totally avoidable environmental destruction in a community which opposes that environmental destruction, and lying about which side there are on.

The strongest hope is for responsibility from the developers. Both developers are also building north of the Alewife reservation. The beautiful Alewife reservation is a major selling point for all of their projects. I made it very clear what the situation is.

They have seen people turned out by the lies of the Cambridge Machine that the Cambridge Machine is defending Alewife.

The situation in Cambridge is so sick that the developers are frequently more responsible than the people who claim they are defending the city.

It comes down to numbers. The Cambridge Machine has won major, totally avoidable, destruction in the Alewife Reservation and is fighting for further, probably total, destruction of Alewife, lying about which side they are on.

Is it worthwhile for the developers to stand up to the Machine?

Environmental Destroyers praise Senator Brownsberger and Representatives Hecht, Moran, Walz, and Wolf for environmental destruction

The following is a direct quote from the August newsletter of the falsely named Charles River “Conservancy.”

If you are pro environment, you do not want Senator Brownsberger or Representatives Hecht, Moran, Walz, and Wolf.

***********

We want to thank the many donors who helped us reach the match for the Barr Foundation grant! These funds allow us to continue our work on advocating for bridge underpasses at the Anderson Memorial, the Western Avenue, and the River Street Bridges, which are currently being restored through the Accelerated Bridge Program. The Governor recently signed the Transportation Bond Bill, which includes an amendment that asks for building those three underpasses on the Boston side of the river. We are grateful to the legislators Senator Brownsberger and Representatives Hecht, Moran, Walz, and Wolf for their efforts.

************

The environmental destroyers did an end around, realizing just how terrible the Cambridge Pols and their friends are.

Senator Brownsberger and Representatives Hecht, Moran, Walz, and Wolf.

For my analysis and photos concerning the portions of this outrage nearest the Charles River White Geese, please see: http://charlesriverwhitegeeseblog.blogspot.com/2012/07/techniques-in-lying-charles-river.html.

South Station / Worcester Commuter Rail progress good news for Charles River.

1. South Station Expansion Planning.
2. Worcester service upgrading without Grand Junction and before South Station expansion.
3. Analysis.

1. South Station Expansion Planning.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation in its August 24, 2012, news letter, announces work on South Station expansion, saying as following.

*************

MassDOT in conjunction with the MBTA and the City of Boston is launching the South Station Expansion Project. Using funds awarded by the federal government, MassDOT will spend the next several years performing planning, environmental review, and preliminary design for an expanded station and ancillary facilities.

**********

More details and the full announcement, including a link to request future public notifications on the project, are at: http://www.massdot.state.ma.us/InformationCenter/WeeklyNewsletters/RoadtoReformNewsletter08242012.aspx.

2. Worcester service upgrading without Grand Junction and before South Station expansion.

The Worcester Telegram reported at the beginning of August, http://www.telegram.com/article/20120802/NEWS/108029914/1246, that the Worcester - Boston service will be greatly upgraded this fall, going from 13 daily round trips to 20 daily round trips.

Expansion is anticipated shortly after the state completes purchase of railroad rights of way along the route.

This expansion is striking because the numbers sound like what the Cambridge pols were talking about in their fight to move Worcester service onto the Grand Junction Railroad.

3. Analysis.

These announcements are major victories for the environment and for responsible transportation planning and yet more slaps in the face for the “reprehensible” (to quote that civil rights judge) government in Cambridge, MA, USA.

I have done major analyses on this matter and will likely follow up with further analyses.

Without going into full details, the Cambridge Machine ran around for an extended period yelling “You can’t win, you can’t win, you can’t win.” They even tried to create yet another fake group to claim opposition to passenger service on the Grand Junction Railroad in Cambridge. Such “protective” groups from the Cambridge pols commonly try to maneuver Cambridge residents into working against their own best interest. One such outrage is their ongoing fight to maintain and expand environmental destruction and animal abuse in the BU Bridge area of the Charles River in Cambridge.

The Cambridge Pols claimed use of the Grand Junction was needed to give Worcester needed expansion of its Boston commuter service because South Station could not handle the added trains during rush hour.

The Grand Junction Railroad line is an integral part of the habitat of the Charles River White Geese, running directly east of the traditional nesting location and west of a traditionally wild hillside which has been used for some nesting in recent years.

The Worcester Telegram reports that this fall's expansion of service of Worcester - Boston commuter service is being accomplished pretty close to what the Cambridge Pols have been fighting for. The timing is such this expansion can only be happening in South Station and cannot be happening on the Grand Junction, the target of the Cambridge pols for the service.

The South Station expansion project going forward further protects Worcester expansion without the environmental and animal abuse outrages of use of the Grand Junction Railroad in Cambridge. Previous reports indicated that South Station expansion was necessary to expand the Worcester - Boston service.

Good work.

Thank you folks.

Robbery reported near Longfellow Bridge.

The following was provided by the Cambridge Police Department.

**********

CITIZEN ALERT: MIT Police Share Information Following 2 Armed Street Robberies

The following is an alert from the MIT Police Department:
August 21, 2012 – The MIT Police Department is asking faculty, staff and students to be vigilant after two recent armed street robberies which occurred in Cambridge.

. . .
The second incident occurred on August 20 at approximately 04:00 a.m. in the area of the Longfellow Bridge, when a male stated he was robbed of his wallet by a suspect who stated he had a gun. The victim described the suspect as a dark skinned Hispanic male, 20 – 25 years of age, 5’8” – 5’10” wearing a turquoise colored zipper hoodie and yellow sneakers. The suspect fled towards Boston. This incident was reported to the MA State Police and the victim has no affiliation with MIT

***********

The communication provided general safety precautions to avoid such occurrences.

The Longfellow Bridge is the second bridge across the Charles River east of the BU Bridge. Environmental destruction being fought for by the bad bureaucrats and their front organizations extend from the Magazine Beach playing fields to the Longfellow Bridge.

Regional funding on Charles River: Longfellow Bridge

The State's Boston Metropolitan Planning Organization has posted funds planning at http://www.bostonmpo.org/bostonmpo/3_programs/2_tip/FFYs_2012_2015_Draft_TIP_Amend_Three.pdf.

There are time limits on comments.

I note at the top of page 6, $280,946,372 for construction work on the Longfellow Bridge, which is the second bridge across the Charles River east of the BU Bridge using non federal moneys.

The fifth item from the bottom on page 3 is for street work construction in Cambridge which is an extension of the Longfellow Bridge project, $1,111,500. This is listed as federal aid, non-target projects.

I have previously reported on the Charles River “Conservancy”’s attempts to include work on the Longfellow Bridge which would make the bridge inhospitable to bicycle commuting. This CRC initiative appears to be an extension of the CRC’s fight to destroy hundreds of healthy trees on Memorial Drive, a project for which the Department of Conservation and Recreation sought Obama moneys lying that all those healthy trees were diseased, a lie proven by the DCR filing with the City of Cambridge. Money were not provided for that. The governor received a copy of the Cambridge filing proving the DCR lie.

1. Introduction.

In my most recent report, at http://charlesriverwhitegeeseblog.blogspot.com/2012/08/magazine-beach-using-vegetation-for.html, I presented the reprehensible (to cross quote a civil rights judge) situation on the Charles River in context.

Key to the report were photos taken on July 23, 2006, by an official of the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority, the entity which owns the sensitively designed sewerage treatment facility between the Magazine Beach playing fields and the BU Bridge / destroyed nesting area of the Charles River White Geese.

In this report, I will not duplicate that report. I hope to present many more photos from that shoot in a future report.

The reality is that, throughout this continuing outrage, the good guys have vastly outnumbered the bad guys, but the bad guys through lack of ethics and a massive, skillfully lying organization in Cambridge have achieved truly horrible destruction.

In this report and in following reports, I will try to put things in perspective.

This photo does a good job of capsulizing the frauds being inflicted by the Cambridge Machine at Magazine Beach.

This photo is from 2004. This is the first awareness by the Charles River White Geese of the starvation being inflicted on them by the bizarre destruction of their food at Magazine Beach, starvation supported by the Cambridge Machine. This part of the heartless animal abuse whose increase the Cambridge Machine are fighting to keep and to expand with the current frauds.

The Cambridge Machine fights to continue the totally inexcusable infliction starvation of these beautiful, valuable more than 30 year permanent residents and to expand the cruelty. But the Cambridge Machine, pretty much non stop, lies that they are holier than thou.

2. Some Useful Photos.

A. City Engineer’s Annual Report, 1901, Provided by Phil Barber.

These are photos of the Magazine Beach bathhouse in 1901.

This structure is on the top of the hill to the west of the Magazine Beach playing fields. The grass around it probably has continued in place for more than a Century. Related grass at the playing fields was destroyed by Cambridge / DCR in the outrages at Magazine Beach, when they destroyed native grass and replaced it with sickly stuff that requires poisons to survive.

All they have to do to end dumping poisons on Magazine Beach next to the Charles River is replace the dumping of poisons with dumping of seeds for the responsible grass they destroyed. This grass has survived 110 years without poisons.

B. Phil’s photo of the goose meadow, April 1990.

C. Phil’s photo of the goose meadow, March 2000.

This was after the first destruction, by Boston University in Fall 1999. Boston University entered the nesting area with its vehicles of destruction the morning before a Cambridge Conservation Commission hearing on the work. They completed the work before the legal appeal period concluded.

BU destroyed a viable, multi-species ecosystem in the middle of a city on the banks of the Charles River. They replaced this magnificent blend of native vegetation with grass, grass, grass and gravel walk which proceeded to wash into the Charles.

BU spent six months lying that they did not do the destruction until they were condemned for this outrage by the Cambridge Conservation Commission.

Then they blamed six months of lies on the President’s secretary who was not fired.

After that, they proceeded to brag about work they denied doing for six months.

They drove away the vastly diverse population by destroying their homes. The Charles River White Geese have only one home, where they have lived for more than 30 years.

The lawn BU inflicted on the resident animals proceeded to be used only by their animal victims. The lawn gradually regained its wild character until the Charles River “Conservancy” started destroying the environment of the Charles River, doing the dirty work of the Department of Conservation and Recreation. Starting in 2003, almost all ground vegetation between the BU Bridge and the BU Boathouse was heartlessly destroyed.

But the Charles River “Conservancy” lies about itself in its name, pretty much non stop declares itself holier than thou. The Charles River “Conservancy” is a very visible part of the current fraud on the public, and the Cambridge Machine brags of its participation.

D. Commencement of starvation, September 4, 2004.

The tree in the background may still be there, to the west of the outrage.

(1) Barriers, flowers, excavation.

(2) Friends feed the hungry and very bewildered white geese over a construction barrier.

E. 2008. Proud family, May 2008, Phil Barber.

F. 2009. Prior situation at the now soon to be impenetrable thicket.

Native vegetation. It was naturally beautiful but not garden club beauty. It got big enough to protect the nests but it could never achieve the incredible size and obstruction of the outrage at Magazine Beach.

G. Summary.

I have too many more photos. I will stop here and pick up later.

3. The assassinated leader of the Charles River White Geese. Animal abusers and their graduations.

In fall 1997, the Cambridge City Manager announced his plans for environmental destruction and heartless animal abuse in the BU Bridge portion of Memorial Drive. The front organization presenting him was the predecessor to the falsely named Charles River Conservancy.

In fall 1999, Boston University, in an illegal agreement with the Department of Conservation and Recreation started the outrage with the destruction of the Nesting Area of the Charles River White Geese in violation of environmental protection laws.

In December 1999, the Cambridge City Council voted to fund the outrages which occurred in 2004 and 2008.

The obvious contempt of these entities for these beautiful Charles River White Geese sent a message which was correctly interpreted by a violent, disturbed person.

Bumpy, the elderly and undisputed leader of the Charles River White Geese was killed in early July 2001 almost certainly by a person who made the killing the pinnacle of truly outrageous achievements. He spent several months beating to death mother geese on their nests. After the killing of the leader of the gaggle, he graduated to rape and murder in the location where he had been killing geese.

The Cambridge Chronicle dominated its front page with a memorial service we had for Bumpy after the killing. The memorial service was conducted on top of the sewerage plant. The plant is skillfully disguised as a grassy knoll with trees and the Charles River around it. The plant is most recognizable as a sewage plant from the direction of the Magazine Beach playing fields.

The Cambridge City Council had repeatedly been begged to do something about the goose killings. Repeatedly, people reminded them that animal abusers graduate.

When the rape and murder occurred, the Cambridge City Council spent an hour discussing the rape and murder. They did not want to know where it occurred.

The Cambridge City Manager’s administration has been in the middle of the governmental outrages on the Charles River.

The Monteiro v. Cambridge case concerns actions which culminated after the mass animal killings and the rape and murder. The Cambridge City Manager destroyed the life of Malvina Monteiro in retaliation for her filing a civil rights / women’s rights complaint.

The Superior Court Judge said “reprehensible.” The jury ordered damages of $1.1 million and penal damages of $3.5 million, possibly greater in percentage than allowed by law. The Appeals Court panel refused to dignify the Cambridge appeal with a formal opinion. “ample evidence [of] outrageous misbehavior.”

One Cambridge City Councilor was fired after he called the destruction of Malvina Monteiro’s life no big thing.

By these court orders, the Cambridge City Council has full grounds to fire the Cambridge City Manager without his golden parachute and possibly without pension. They have placed in committee a motion to chastise him.

The Cambridge Machine has assisted the Cambridge City Manager in his mass animal kill as part of another bizarre project at Alewife, with money voted by the Cambridge City Council. The Cambridge Machine is maneuvering to make a very much larger animal kill at Alewife “unavoidable” when further massive animal killing now can be totally avoided and the current outrage reversed.

Magazine Beach: Using vegetation for Heartless Animal Abuse.

1. Introduction.
2. Magazine Beach Walled off from the Charles River, Phase 1.
3. Prior status at Magazine Beach, the norm everywhere else on the Charles River Basin.
4. Situation at Magazine Beach between phase 1 and phase 2 destruction.
5. Situation at Magazine Beach Phase 2 destruction.
6. Current situation at Destroyed Nesting Area.
7. The life forced on the Charles River White Geese.
8. Some of the food kept from the Charles River White Geese.

1. Introduction.

The outrage at Magazine Beach is deliberate.

The state wants all animals residing on the Charles River Basin to be destroyed.

This is the policy of the Department of Conservation and Recreation. I am quoting from the fine print where they call for “parkland” everywhere and define “parkland” as having no free animals.

There is nothing complicated about the situation. The state has people managing animals who are unfit to manage animals. They can get away with it in Cambridge because the city government is so extremely bad.

The DCR manager has bragged he is starving the Charles River White Geese. He is doing it as part of a bunch of environmentally destructive efforts achieved through outright lies and lies of omission.

The starvation comes from two walls of introduced bushes to keep the Charles River White Geese from their more than three decade habitat at Magazine Beach - the first wall at the river, and a second wall constructed to prevent food access through the only opening.

What makes it really complicated is the holier than thou nonsense coming out of the Cambridge Machine. They are belligerently lying using highly sophisticated techniques which communicate that really destructive people are something to be proud of. This is truly a massive machine which routinely lives in a world of make believe manufactured from the minds of who knows whom.

2. Magazine Beach Walled off from the Charles River, Phase 1.

This is the current status of Magazine Beach viewed from the Boston side:

Exactly ZERO public discussion has been allowed by Cambridge and the DCR as to whether the two would close off access between the Magazine Beach playing fields and the Charles River. These bushes have grown without limit since the two planted them.

The promise was, by the DCR, a lawn to the river, and by its front, the Charles River “Conservancy”, an improvement to swimming. Reality proves these blatant lies, but the Cambridge Machine lives in whatever “reality” the people pulling the strings tells the Cambridge Machine is reality. The DCR, CRC and Cambridge do the destruction, and the destruction is much larger than this particular outrage. The Cambridge Machine keeps in check a voter constituency which would be in arms if it were not for the non stop very skillful lies coming from the Machine.

The tiny opening in this massive wall used to be a boat dock, but the DCR and Cambridge have blocked access to the boat dock from the Cambridge side. And the DCR spent years insisting that it was limiting uses on the Charles to water related uses.

The manager of this operation has bragged that this outrage starves the Charles River White Geese by keeping out of their three decade feeding grounds.

To the right of this picture is the well designed Massachusetts Water Resources Authority pollution control plant. To its right are the BU Bridge and the Destroyed Nesting Area which has been converted into a ghetto for the beautiful Charles River White Geese who used to migrate over a one mile habitat centered on the BU Bridge. Most of the time, they lived at the Magazine Beach playing fields. In the spring, they lived at their Nesting Area to the east of the BU Bridge.

Thirty plus year residents casually, heartlessly starved.

The vegetation in the foreground is on the Boston side. It is a fraction of the size of the introduced wall. The vegetation in the next photo is about the same size as the foreground vegetation.

3. Prior status at Magazine Beach, the norm everywhere else on the Charles River Basin.

This is a photo of the area just to the west of Magazine Beach. The difference from what was at Magazine Beach before destruction is negligible.

This native vegetation is destroyed twice a year like all bordering vegetation on the Charles except for the bizarre stuff at the Magazine Beach playing fields. The bizarre introduced wall at Magazine Beach is never trimmed.

4. Situation at Magazine Beach between phase 1 and phase 2 destruction.

On planting the outrage blocking off Magazine Beach from the water, Cambridge and the DCR left an opening at the destroyed boat dock through which the Charles River White Geese entered and fed. This photo was taken by an Massachusetts Water Resources Authority official in 2006. The MWRA owns the well designed pollution control plant which is between the Magazine Beach playing fields and the BU Bridge and the Destroyed Nesting Area.

The vegetation to the right is the status of that bizarre wall in 2006. Note that in 2006, the boat dock was not accessible. The following is an additional photo from the same event and photographer. It shows the status of that bizarre wall in 2006. As I recall, the orangish items are at the location of the destroyed boat dock.

5. Situation at Magazine Beach Phase 2 destruction.

The DCR, Cambridge and friends were offended that the Charles River White Geese could get food by walking through the destroyed dock. In phase 2, Cambridge and the DCR created a second wall to prevent entrance through the destroyed boat dock, of course never explained or even publicized. This is the current situation. All access to food is blocked.

The vertical barriers have not been moved from the prior photo. The artificial bridge is unchanged as well. It is on the far side and left of the trash bin. The difference is the massive introduced wall of bushes, once again never trimmed.

6. Current situation at Destroyed Nesting Area.

Cambridge and the DCR have confined the Charles River White Geese in the area east of the BU Bridge. Their heartless and deliberate starvation has been prevented by volunteers feeding them.

This year Cambridge and the DCR introduced bushes into the area where, for most of the last more than 30 years, the Charles River White Geese have made most of their nests.

Compare these photos to the 2006 photos, and compare the 2006 photos to the present at the playing fields, photos above.

Remember the heartless starvation of the Charles River White Geese. Remember the mass animal kill at Alewife in October and November of 2011. There is no doubt what these bushes will look like in coming years.

And remember, the Cambridge Machine is now conducting a con game to fool people into thinking Cambridge and the DCR are responsible entities. The Cambridge Machine fought for destruction at the Alewife reservation by spending years yelling at private developers and telling people to ignore totally avoidable and, in fact, downright silly destruction. Now that Cambridge and the DCR have just indulged in mass animal killing at Alewife as part of truly bizarre environmental destruction there, the Cambridge Machine, after years of “defending” Alewife immediately ran around bragging about the destruction. And that mass killing is only phase 1. Now they are playing a con game to make perhaps total destruction there with corresponding killings.

I talk of Cambridge and the DCR in one breath. Games are always played with moneys. Money is shuffled to fit whatever explanation works. The reality is that nothing is done near Cambridge by the DCR without Cambridge support. And it goes much further than that. A few months ago, I quoted in these pages, an MIT official praising the head of the fake Neighborhood Association for his destructive behavior at Magazine Beach. MIT, Harvard and many other non profits subsidize the destruction and falsely named Charles River “Conservancy.”

7. The life forced on the Charles River White Geese.

The vegetation to the left and right is some of the few native bushes not destroyed between the BU Bridge (in the background) and the BU Boathouse (a block to the east) since the CRC started destroying native vegetation for the DCR. The nesting area was lush.

8. Some of the food kept from the Charles River White Geese.
