1. Summary.

This is the most recent report on the imminent logging by the Department of Conservation and Recreation on Memorial Drive on the Charles River.

My blog will not handle all the photos at once.  So I am presenting them in sequence.  This follows on prior reports with the destruction plans, and other photos, plus suggestions on added sanctions for the previously legislatively punished agency in question.

These photos are of the area east of the excellent and condemned grove of cherry trees at the Memorial Drive split.  My memory is that 83 of 105 excellent trees are slated for destruction, PLUS ALL of the excellent group of cherry trees across from the Hyatt Regency.

This will be an edited collection.

The “approvals” received by the DCR for this outrage are non existent.  They simply asked for money without saying what they were doing.  The DCR has announced a second public meeting for the irresponsible, but far less destructive proposal at Magazine Beach.  That proceeds with the fraud of being a responsible entity.

Naturally, the massive destruction is kept as secret as possible.

As near as I can figure out, the lobbying effort in the legislature amounted to the falsely named Charles River “Conservancy” showing a petition for underpasses under three bridges further out on the Charles.  It appears that they lied that the petition for underpasses supported this massive destruction, without, of course, mentioning the destruction.

The falsely named Charles River “Conservancy” openly supported this destruction about ten years ago when fraud was not the in thing.  The destruction has not changed.  Fraud is now the open tool.

By today more zelkovas are marked for cutting than a few days back. It is bizarre which are saved and which cut.

Get [third party] to demand a map. There is no pathway I can imagine that would in any way cause some to be cut and others not. I cannot see how this helps people enjoy nature and nature survive. If any tree is claimed to be diseased a detailed account of the illness should be provided.

Third party identification is omitted as a matter of courtesy to the third party.

Robin may be referring to one of the many statements coming out of the Department of Conservation and Recreation. They have (my analysis) informed the Boston Globe in 2009 that all targeted trees were diseased. They are, to my understanding, no more diseased now than they were then.

I am aware of two destruction plans.

The first destruction plan was created in 2003, the same year the local transit agency determined that an off ramp was feasible to Cambridge over the Grand Junction railroad bridge in a study under very odd circumstances. Harvard bought the future Harvard Medical School area, just down the Mass. Pike from the possible off ramp, a few months later. A lot of destruction on and near Memorial Drive is, in my experience and opinion, consistent with setting things up to accept that off ramp.

The second destruction plan was created in 2009. There are striking similarities. The second reflects destruction of diseased trees in the interim.

A key lie in the plans as well, in my reading of the plans and knowledge of reality, is the omission of hundreds of trees being destroyed in the Wild Area west of the Grand Junction. The plans show exactly one tree in that area and shows it not being destroyed. All of the hundreds of trees existing in area were omitted from any reference whatsoever. The plan does show a supporting wall which does not exist.

In 2009, the DCR told the Boston Globe that all of the hundreds of trees proposed to be destroyed in 2009 were diseased. Another flat out lie in my opinion and understanding of reality.

The same trees are there now and are imminent for destruction.

3. Seventh photos of pending destruction, from October 22, 2015.

I am proceeding to the east of the cherry grove photos in the last report.

This is the area which includes the construction trailers.  I am not aware of destruction which is imminent west of the trees next to the trailers.  Since all is being done in secret and there is a severe and established problem with lack of reliability of statements from them, it is impossible to say what will be destroyed now.

This area has less trees being destroyed.

I have previously provided photos of the median and am only providing those which are different.

Destruction plans for this area are as follows.

Darkened circles are doomed trees.

The first plan includes the eastern part of the condemned cherry grove.  The opening in the median in the second plan is the end of the work zone as it currently appears.  The work trailers are in the area to the left of the opening.

As you can see, destruction continues to the west, and there is very major destruction to the west.

Destruction plans proceeding to the east include additional areas with really major destruction.  Right now, I am not aware of work being begun there YET, but things can change from day to day.  Full destruction plans are provided in the first link in section 6, 6(a)(1).

The work zone is also ambiguous at the western end.

I provided you a photo of the Department of Environmental Protection sign most of the way to the west of the Wild Area.  The trouble is, now, that there is a work zone sign much closer to the BU Bridge on that ramp.

They could be destroying the excellent tree on that ramp PLUS the WILD AREA.  Their destruction plans lie about the work they are doing.

They could be destroying the Destroyed Nesting Area again, now and furthering their heartless abuse of the Charles River White Geese.

But, proceeding with the photos of the area east of the ones I just gave you. These relate to the first two of these three plans.

I think I will stop here.

I find the situation so vile, and the corrupt tactics behind the destruction absolutely reprehensible.


4. DCR and fake neighborhood association celebrate commercialization of Magazine Beach, proceed with insulting “review” of much less destructive work.

a. Sainthood.

They are conducting an open house for their apparent success at fighting the quiet at Magazine Beach.

They are also hosting the second Department of Conservation and Recreation meeting publicizing the irresponsible work the two are doing at Magazine Beach.  DCR and the fake group are still silent as to publicizing the imminent destruction of hundreds of trees.

The combination of these “public meetings” with imminent massive destruction of hundreds of trees between the BU and Longfellow Bridges with no such public meeting, makes these public meetings flat out fraud.  DCR and the fake group are lying that DCR is a responsible entity which does things in public.  The approvals in legislation make no mention of destruction.

The lobbying by the falsely named Charles River “Conservancy” apparently communicated that a petition in support of “underpasses” under the next three bridges to the west also supported the destruction of hundreds of trees and animal habitat between the BU and Longfellow Bridges.  The money for the destruction was approved without mentioning the irresponsible nature of the project in Chapter 284 of the Acts of 2014.

b. More censorship.

The fake neighborhood association has been fighting for this destruction by preventing discussion while lying that they were allowing discussion and that they love the Charles River.  Business as usual.

The “neighborhood association” shut down political comment on the listserve for a period of days or weeks.  They then loudly proclaimed they were allowing all political comment.

After they censored one of my digests of blog posts reporting the imminent massive destruction by the DCR, I publicized the censoring.  That post was passed on to the listserve.

Last I was aware of, my digest of my last report concerning the fighting for destruction of open space in Cambridge by Boston residents who were demanding maximum open space in Boston, and thus preventing needed clean up of traffic on the River Street Bridge was still being censored.

My report was entitled: “Charles River:   MassDOT proposal would clean up the River Street Bridge mess.  Boston residents demand logging and increased animal abuse for gold plating in Cambridge, fight MassDOT’s excellent proposal in Boston.”

Their folks whose destructiveness the fake neighborhood association supports have a meaningful number of Boston residents who are fighting for major increases in their open space at the same time as they fight for massive destruction of hundreds of trees and animal habitat in Cambridge.  The project they (and, by its usual censorship, the fake neighborhood association) oppose would greatly reduce auto emissions in the Charles River area at the River Street Bridge.

Thursday afternoon, October 29, 2015, I attended a presentation by three entities concerning the rearrangement in the future home of the Harvard Medical School in Allston, Boston, MA, including Mass. Pike (I90) rearrangement..  It was organized by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT).

2. Environmental destructive hypocrites playing both sides of the issue.

I have long been impressed that the some people are involved in the Mass. Pike project yelling “open space,open space, open space” who immediately switch sides when the north side of the Charles is involved:

On the north side of the Charles, their yelling is “Destroy those MANY excellent trees and inflict animal abuse, destroy those MANY excellent trees and inflict animal abuse, destroy those MANY excellent trees and inflict animal abuse.”

What has been clear is that they claim to be representing different groups on each side of the river.

And that is a major part of the rub: pure hypocrisy, pure hypocrisy.  Horrible destruction, personal benefit, pure hypocrisy.

In Cambridge, they have their beloved CAMBRIDGE highway lobby and the demanded destruction of hundreds of EXCELLENT trees because the LATEST con out the Department of Conservation and Recreation says that DCR is benefitting THEM by destroying THE SOUTH SIDE, including hundreds of excellent trees and animal habitat.

The DCR wants welfare for their contractors.  They have gone through excuse after excuse after excuse to inflict massive destruction so that they contractors can make big bucks.  The DCR has blatantly lied to the Boston Globe.  So the DCR offers these Boston based hypocrites blood money.

The Boston based hypocrites want their beloved gold plated highway.  The one the hypocrites already have is not gold plated.  Destroy, destroy, destroy the excellent trees.  Inflict, inflict, inflict animal cruelty.  So the hypocrites can get their gold plated highway in the place of a perfectly good highway.

On the Boston side of the Charles River, the Boston base hypocrites want what they fight to destroy in Cambridge.  They want “open space, open space, open space.”

Pure hypocrisy, and a bunch of vile, frequently lying bureaucrats, and greedy contractors.

It just sunk in.  They live on the Boston side of the Charles River and are very happy to please the DCR by fighting for its vile causes because they see benefits to them from GOLD PLATING destruction on the Cambridge side of the Charles River.

On the Boston side of the river, they are lining their own pockets with blind demands for new open space.

And to Heck with the environmental quality, and to Heck with hundreds of excellent trees.  THEY DEMAND DESTRUCTION FOR THEIR GOLD PLATED replacement for a perfectly good existing bike highway.

With their outrageous tree destruction on the south side of the Charles River in Cambridge, they are fighting for air pollution by destroying magnificent, mature trees.

The difference between Cambridge and Boston is that there is extreme environmental irresponsibility in the government of the City of Cambridge, and Boston has a responsible government.

With the blind demands of the hypocrites for open space WHERE THEY LIVE, they are fighting to continue pollution creation on the Boston side of the Charles River with a bad traffic pattern at the River Street Bridge and Soldiers Field Road.

With the blind demands for GOLD PLATING on the south, Cambridge side, they are fighting for air pollution with the totally irresponsible destruction of hundreds of trees

On both sides, they are demanding bad air, doing it piously, and belligerently fighting for their cause of extreme hypocrisy.

3. The Intersection of the River Street Bridge and Memorial Drive.

Here is a now dated map of the project, but the issue is clear.

Next to the Mass. Pike project is the River Street Bridge, also controlled by MassDOT.  That bridge is above the map to the right.  It is the extension of Cambridge Street which is the top street, running at an about 45 degree angle.

The off ramp from Soldiers Field Road to the River Street Bridge is a nightmare because the managers are trying to do too much in one intersection.  Until now, they had no choice.

The result is, of course, more pollution from idling cars, and a slower commute for everybody.

The problem is a one way street in two directions.

As you go up the ramp from Soldiers Field Road westbound to the River Street Bridge, you are faced with three possible one way streets, left, center, and right.

The left turn, in a different part of the traffic pattern is one way in the exact opposite direction.

When you are going up the ramp, the left turn goes to the Mass. Pike, Allston and Brighton.  The right turn goes to Cambridge.

In a different part of the cycle, that left turn becomes prohibited from the ramp.  The one way to Brighton, instead, is one way to Cambridge in the same direction as the right turn off the ramp.  That tiny stretch is an extension of the River Street Bridge.

So the light pattern is too long.  It creates an excess wait for people going up the off ramp.  It creates an excess wait for folks going over the River Street Bridge to Cambridge.  Both waits are made longer because the traffic from the off ramp includes a cycle going wrong way, compared to the River Street Bridge, heading toward Boston / Brighton in a location where that left turn really should not be there.  The area being used for the left turn should be one way toward the River Street Bridge.

This is not the Boston based hypocrites’ lovely gold plating with their massive tree destruction and animal abuse on the south side.  This is a silly traffic pattern creating NEEDLESS pollution and delay because that left turn from the off ramp should not be there.

4. MassDOT’s Brilliant Solution.

Here is the map again.

Although MassDOT has not apparently thought it through yet, MassDOT has solved the problem at the River Street Bridge.

The key to the trouble is the hypocrites destroying for gold plating on the south side are demanding an excess increase in open space for their benefit on the north side.  And they have no problem with blatant hypocrisy.  They want both their irresponsible destruction for gold plating on the south side and their blood money on the north side.

MassDOT is talking about ramp access from the Medical School Area to Soldiers Field Road east bound, inbound.  That access is firm.  On the map it is the yellow marked road which connects to Soldiers Field Road, on the right, at the furthest point upwards that Soldiers Field Road is colored yellow.  The thin yellow road between the two would be an access ramp.

MassDOT had rejected an off ramp to the Medical School Area from Soldiers Field Road outbound, westbound.  Harvard told MassDOT to try that off ramp.  They did.  Their off ramp suggestion is excellent.  There is plenty of room in the green area to create the off ramp.  One excellent place would be to start the off ramp just above the reddish bike highway.  There is plenty of space for it and connection to the East Drive Connector would be simple.

The off ramp should not loop over the Charles however.  That change was mentioned in private discussion Thursday.   The westbound off ramp from Soldiers Field Road should just go straight ahead and off over Soldiers Field Road.  That off ramp to the Harvard Medical School, properly executed is an excellent idea.  Traffic which now goes to the left, wrong way, at the top of the ramp to the River Street Bridge can now go through the Harvard Medical School area and to their destinations.

I checked with MassDOT about alternate road access to two businesses at the southwest corner of the Soldiers Field Road / River Street Bridge intersection.  They would have NEW access to the highways from the on ramp to Soldiers Field Road inbound, east bound.  The business next to Soldiers Field Road between the River Street and Western Avenue Bridges, already has new access planned from the side of their business away from Soldiers Field Road.

And putting in the off ramp from Soldiers Field Road to the Harvard Medical School Area makes the left turn from the ramp at the River Street Bridge unnecessary.  Traffic can go through the Harvard Medical School area to Brighton / Allston and the river industries without needing that left turn through an extension of the River Street Bridge which really should only be going one way over the River Street Bridge.

That off ramp also greatly reduces traffic on the rotary which includes portions of the two bridges because of the internal connections to the business between the bridges.

Eliminate that left turn by putting in the direct off ramp and you greatly reduce the back up from Boston to Cambridge and you greatly reduce the backup on the off ramp.

And a lot of traffic is reduced.

THIS IS NOT THE GOLD PLATING THE HYPOCRITES BASED ON THE BOSTON SIDE ARE DEMANDING BY DEMANDING DESTRUCTION OF HUNDREDS OF TREES ON THE CAMBRIDGE SIDE AND BY DEMANDING INCREASE OF HEARTLESS ANIMAL ABUSE ON THE CAMBRIDGE SIDE.

THIS IS SOLVING A VERY REAL PROBLEM.

5. Recommendation to MassDOT.

Go to it.  Go with that off ramp to the Harvard Medical School directly from Soldiers Field Road westbound, outbound, but not with a loop over the Charles River.

Ignore the loud hypocrites and their demands for blood money.

Do not give the hypocrites their non stop demands.  Treat them as the demanding, destructive hypocrites they are.

To avoid confusion, I am again providing destruction plans.  I am starting this report with the two which concern this destruction.

The photos have a difficult job reproducing the orange marks of planned death.  The plumage of these excellent trees blocked the light needed to do the job.  Please review the plans for exact information.  The blackened circles are doomed, excellent trees.  I think it is every tree next to the Charles in the orchard, plus a significant number of others.

There is one photo of the median.  The nearest trees on the median are protect and are not being destroyed THIS TIME.

It is possible that some unprotected trees may yet be protected.  I cannot wait until they are done protecting the few trees they are not destroying.  By then it will be too late.   COMPARE TO THE PLANS.  The plans view extremely well on double clicking.

1. Summary.

This is the most recent report on the imminent logging by the Department of Conservation and Recreation on Memorial Drive on the Charles River.

My blog will not handle all the photos at once.  So I am presenting them in sequence.  This follows on prior reports with the destruction plans, and other photos, plus suggestions on added sanctions for the previously legislatively punished agency in question.

The most recent prior reports are an excellent example of what the DCR is fighting for in this fraudulent operation.  Cambridge destroyed trees the DCR wanted destroyed.  Cambridge claimed to be doing sewer work.  Cambridge and the DCR created the first part of the DCR’s planned massive wasteland.

These photos continue the excellent and condemned grove of cherry trees at the Memorial Drive split.  My memory is that 83 of 105 excellent trees are slated for destruction, PLUS ALL of the excellent group of cherry trees across from the Hyatt Regency.

My photos of October 22, 2015, did not do an adequate presentation of the 100% condemned strand across from the Hyatt Regency.  I will photo them from the Memorial Drive side, with all them condemned by those vile orange spots.

The “approvals” received by the DCR for this outrage are non existent.  They simply asked for money without saying what they were doing.  The DCR has announced a second public meeting for the irresponsible, but far less destructive proposal at Magazine Beach.  That proceeds with the fraud of being a responsible entity.

Naturally, the massive destruction is kept as secret as possible.

As near as I can figure out, the lobbying effort in the legislature amounted to the falsely named Charles River “Conservancy” showing a petition for underpasses under three bridges further out on the Charles.  It appears that they lied that the petition for underpasses supported this massive destruction, without, of course, mentioning the destruction.

The falsely named Charles River “Conservancy” openly supported this destruction about ten years ago when fraud was not the in thing.  The destruction has not changed.  Fraud is now the open tool.

2. Photos from 10/22/15, fifth grouping.

The photos have a difficult job reproducing the orange marks of planned death.  The plumage of these excellent trees blocked the light needed to do the job.  Please review the plans in the prior report for exact information, link below, as the second grouping.  The blackened circles are doomed, excellent trees.  I think it is every tree next to the Charles in the orchard, plus a significant number of others.

This report will be followed by more photos of this condemned, excellent, cherry orchard.  Two photos look like they could be from the median.  they are not.  They are from the grove.  The truck is a worker vehicle.

It is possible that some unprotected trees may yet be protected.  I cannot wait until they are done protecting the few trees they are not destroying.  By then it will be too late.

These photos start with the last photo of the last grouping.  You can see the trees which are not being destroyed behind the fence.

This grouping continues photos of the wasteland partially implementing the outrageous DCR plans.  Cambridge started the tree destruction in the guise of a sewer project.  Full plans, including tree destruction which has already been accomplished are provided in the first link in section 3, below.

At the end, the photos start the magnificent grove of cherry trees at the Memorial Drive split.  Off the top of my head, 83 out of 105 trees are condemned.  Note the orange mark of death.

The closely cropped bordering vegetation shown is the norm on the Charles River.  The 16 foot high introduced wall of vegetation at Magazine Beach is unusual, but it has a purpose.  It is designed to and has been allowed to grow to starve the Charles River White Geese.  Fraud of omission is the in thing.

It is possible that unprotected trees may yet be protected.  I cannot wait until they are done protecting the few trees they are not destroying.  By then it will be too late.
